Growing our canopy
Caring for the trees that make our parks special
Trees are one of the Park District of La Grange’s most valuable assets. They provide shade, improve air quality, reduce stormwater runoff, support local wildlife, and enhance the beauty and character of our parks. Our Urban Forestry Plan serves as a long term roadmap for protecting, maintaining, and expanding a healthy, diverse tree canopy for future generations.
The Park District received a $10,500 Illinois Urban and Community Forestry Grant to complete a comprehensive tree inventory and develop the Urban Forestry Plan. The plan was adopted by the Board of Commissioners on May 9, 2022, and continues to guide decisions related to tree planting, preservation, maintenance, species diversity, and long term sustainability.
As part of our commitment to responsible environmental stewardship, the Park District of La Grange is proud to be recognized as an ArbNet Level I Accredited Arboretum. This international accreditation recognizes our dedication to professional tree management, biodiversity, and the long term care of our urban forest.
