Enjoy our parks responsibly

Park Rules

Help us keep our parks safe, welcoming, and enjoyable for everyone. The following rules are designed to protect our parks, facilities, and natural spaces while ensuring a positive experience for all visitors.

Hours

Parks are open from sunrise to sunset unless otherwise posted. Lighted facilities may remain open until 10:00 p.m. The Park District may adjust hours or temporarily close specific parks or amenities due to maintenance, weather, or special events.

General Park Use

Our parks are shared spaces for the whole community. Please follow posted signs, stay out of restricted or unfinished areas, and respect any spaces reserved for programs or rentals. Activities that put others at risk, damage property, or significantly disrupt other visitors’ enjoyment are not allowed and may result in removal from the park.

Dog Policy

Leashed dogs are welcome in our outdoor park areas. Please keep your dog under control at all times and respect posted no dog areas, including ballfields, courts, playgrounds, and restrooms. Help keep our parks clean by picking up after your dog and disposing of waste in a trash receptacle.

Pets & Animals

Please enjoy wildlife from a distance and do not feed, chase, or disturb animals or birds. Help preserve our natural areas by leaving plants, trees, and other natural features undisturbed. Only domestic dogs are permitted in Park District parks and outdoor facilities and must remain under their owner's control at all times. Other pets are not permitted. Trained service animals assisting individuals with disabilities are welcome in buildings and facilities.

Motorized Devices

To help keep our parks safe for everyone, motorized devices are not permitted on Park District property. This includes electric bicycles, electric scooters, one wheel devices, hoverboards, minibikes, ATVs, golf carts, and similar motorized transportation or recreational devices.

This restriction does not apply to authorized Park District vehicles, emergency vehicles, or mobility devices used by individuals with disabilities in accordance with applicable law.

Bicycles, Scooters & Skateboards

Bicycles, non motorized scooters, skateboards, roller skates, rollerblades, and similar recreational devices may be used only in designated areas. Riders must yield to pedestrians and operate safely at all times. These devices are prohibited on playgrounds, athletic fields, courts, splash pads, landscaped areas, and in other posted restricted areas.

Vehicles & Parking

Motor vehicles are permitted only in designated parking areas. Driving or parking on grass, pathways, or other non paved surfaces is prohibited except for authorized Park District, emergency, law enforcement, maintenance, or contractor vehicles. Vehicles parked in violation of Park District rules may be ticketed or removed at the owner's expense.

Alcohol & Tobacco

To help provide a safe, healthy, and family friendly environment for everyone, alcohol is not permitted on Park District property. Smoking, vaping, and the use of tobacco products are prohibited within 15 feet of playgrounds, sports fields, and pavilions. Thank you for helping us keep our parks and facilities welcoming and enjoyable for all visitors.

Facility Reservations & Permits

Many Park District facilities, athletic fields, pavilions, and indoor spaces are available to reserve. Some events and activities may require a permit, proof of insurance, fees, or other approvals. Contact the Park District for availability and reservation requirements.

Special Permits

To help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, some activities require advance approval. Permits may be required for large gatherings, special events, amplified sound, commercial or charitable activities, drone operations, public performances, or certain athletic events. Additional requirements, including fees, proof of insurance, or a security deposit, may apply.

Facility & Amenity Use

Playgrounds, courts, fields, and other amenities are designed for specific types of play and activities. Follow posted age recommendations and rules for each area, and do not use equipment that is closed, fenced off, or under maintenance. Organized leagues, team practices, and large-group activities may need a reservation or permit.

Safety & Prohibited Items

We are committed to providing a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable environment for everyone. Weapons, fireworks, explosives, and other dangerous items are prohibited on Park District property. Cannabis, illegal drugs, and controlled substances are not permitted. Reckless behavior, bullying, harassment, and disorderly conduct will not be tolerated. Please follow the directions of Park District staff and law enforcement officers to help ensure a safe experience for all visitors.

Environmental Stewardship

Help us keep our parks clean and beautiful. Please use trash and recycling containers where provided, and pack out your waste if receptacles are full or unavailable. Please do not damage or remove trees, plants, landscaping, or other natural features, and respect all fenced or posted natural areas.
